Soup, a post-rock band hailing from Trondheim, Norway, was founded in 2004 by multi-instrumentalist Erlend Viken as a creative outlet for his songwriting and compositional talents. Over the years, Soup has developed a distinct sound that has drawn comparisons to influential acts like Steven Wilson, Sigur Rós, Mogwai, and Explosions in the Sky. Their music is characterized by expansive soundscapes, blending elements of ambient rock, post-rock, and experimental jazz.

In 2021, Soup released their critically acclaimed album Visions, a project that pushes the boundaries of their sonic landscape. If Godspeed You! Black Emperor ventured into jazz with Richard Wright as producer and a stressed-out Brian Eno mixing it down to cassette, you’d get close to what Visions achieves. Self-produced by the band and intentionally countering the trend of loudness and high fidelity, the album offers a distinctive, low-fi experience. The visual journey of Visions is beautifully captured by long-time collaborator Lasse Hoile, whose cover art continues the narrative from Soup’s previous albums. Available in two exquisitely colored vinyl versions and a 3-panel digipak, Visions stands as a testament to Soup’s evolving artistry and their commitment to creating immersive, thought-provoking music.
